This was Canning's only contribution to the long-running (30 episodes) British series Man in a Suitcase, broadcast by ITV in the late 1960s. The recurrent character is McGill, played by Richad Bradford, a discredited CIA agent based in London, now trying to clear his name and meanwhile accepting any private detective assignments he can get. This episode is set in Paris and stars Marius Goring and a young Felicity Kendall.
A blind girl is the only witness to the murder of her guardian, a society lady. She engages McGill to track down some antique jewellery taken by the intruder. McGill establishes that the jewellery is fake and that the real motive of the murder was to take over the running of a series of concerts and soirees for blind people which actually covers a drug distribution scheme. In a tense final scene the girl recognises the footsteps of the murderer.
Victor Canning also used the theme of blindness in the stories "Chance at the wheel" and "Lady in the dark".
